Marpol accidental oil outflow extension released

May 1st, 2010
We are pleased to announce the release of our new Marpol oil outflow extension according to MEPC.141(54). This new extension calculates the accidental oil outflow parameter for vessels with an aggregrated fuel oil capacity of more than 600 m3. This oil outflow parameter is calculated for both sides of the ship. More details regarding this new extension can be found here.

Newly delivered ''Fugro Searcher'' receives DELFTload

March 15th, 2010
On 12 March 2010, Fugro took delivery of a new-build survey vessel, the MV "Fugro Searcher". The high-tech survey vessel was build by the German shipyard Fr. Fassmer GmbH & Co. KG located near Bremen.

DELFTload™ is an advanced onboard stability calculation program for almost any type of vessel. The software has been designed in collaboration with ship owners and crewmembers. The result is a intuitive program that is easily operated and which excels in 3D visualization of loading conditions.

Loading conditions generated with DELFTload™ are analyzed using a very accurate 3D computer model of the ship. The direct calculation approach based on surface paneling is a great improvement over the traditional methods employed. Accurate and reliable results are produced which are displayed visually on screen as well as in a clear and understandable report.

DELFTload™ basic.

The basic program manages the creation of loading conditions and filling of tanks.  A 3D view displays, amongst other things, waterplanes, tankfillings and locations of the various loads from the loading condition. The calculated results are validated against the stability criteria. The modular structure of the software makes it suitable for many different vessels. Depending on the type of ship the following modules can be integrated in the software:

Longitudinal strength.

The longitudinal strength module calculates the still water shear force and bending moment for any given loading condition. The calculated values are plotted in graphs together with the envelopes of the allowable maximum and minimum values.

Container loading.

Containers can be loaded on the ship graphically or by manually assigning the bay numbers. Loaded containers are displayed in a 2D view showing the bays or in the 3D model. Containers loaded on top of the hatches are automatically included in the windsilhouette.

General cargo.

The general cargo module allows for the positioning of multiple cargo objects in the holds or on the hatches. The cargo can be modeled in 3D using geometric primitives to visualize the space occupied by the cargo. This 3D model of the cargo is also used for calculating the windsilhouette. The general cargo extension can also be used to fill the holds with homogeneous bulk cargo. Various items, such as hatch covers, grain bulkheads etc. can be moved to pre-fixed locations by choosing the desired target location from a menu. The general cargo module can optionally be extended to include grain stability.

Heavy lifting.

The heavy lifting module is used to check the stability of the ship while handling loads suspended in cranes. Multiple cranes  are supported which are controlled with the mouse or numerically. During the operation cranes and cargo are updated in the 2D and 3D views in realtime.

The extension also supports and visualizes stabilizer pontoons used for extra stability during the lifting process.
